Recently Julien, from Shoes-Up magazine forwarded a press clipping from the Noir issue. Thats the color black if you didnt know. The issue features Nigo, Spike Lee, the Shoes Up collaboration with Lacoste, and Lemar and Dauley. It is a great look to be included.
Lemar and Dauley “Civil Liberty” t-shirt available in December for Holiday 08′ Delivery.
L&D featured in the latest issue of Front Magazine. If your unfamiliar, Front Magazine is similar to Maxim except..well better.lol. The cover is all you need to know to judge the difference and its much better inside. Pick up an issue so you can check for the girls and the L&D houndstooth rugby!
Its been a fun week. The L&D Boyz minus Manhattan again (he never comes out),lol, hit the art circuit yet again to check out the Jose Parla show in lower Manhattan. Prior to attending the exhibit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Mr. Parla, but the homie Artek told me it was a must see and I have to admit, once I viewed it in person, I was extremely impressed…even inspired!
Champagne and stimulating conversation with Ariel from Bridgez Magazine and Artek
Linyee, Angelo and Alex discussing the show.

Its never an official art show unless the heels and legs come out!.
After being informed by a series of jubilant girls screaming it the streets that our favorite “poster boy” was now officially the next U.S president and historically the nations first African-American president, I decided to call my father on his outlook on such an historic moment. I started off the conversation telling him congrats!. He proceeded to interrupt me, as to say, that it was not he, but I, that was owed gratitude. Metaphorically speaking, he stated that this generation of youths were the engine that pushed this vehicle ahead and that it was your ingenuity, passion for change and renewed faith that assisted prior generations in igniting a reevaluation of the standards set within this country.
“You guys must pat yourselves on the back for using tools that pushed this campaign and its message beyond. As the future, you were always going to be the deciding factor and you guys (girls and boys) all showed up when it mattered most!”
I agree, and urge everyone to continue to consistently participate within the political structure at all levels. A government is only as strong and faithful as the people who remain actively involved in its direction!.
Geeze CMJ’s took a lot outta me this year, the constant shows can be super draining. Well as usual we had to do our job and make sure we made our presence felt. We outfitted a number of artist that performed during CMJ’s this year including U-N-I, Skyzoo and Christian Rich. We fitted them with everything from the New Era Hats (AsideBside Fitteds), to the Jackets, “Backpack”, Tee’s, Flannel……Yeah that’s all L&D. Boss man Kareem CEO of L&D even came out to the shows to support, of course wearing his L&D
Sorry for the delay on my posts but i have been re-cooping lol. If you weren’t able to make it out to NY for the week of nonstop fun and good music then put it on your calendar right now for next year.
PS. Thanks Geff for being our own CMJ photographer, greatly appreciated, as i was busy grooving to the tunes lol
I was watching TV in my apartment in Toronto about six months ago, and I came across this commercial for a Canadian cell phone provider called TELUS. They were playing a “jingle” that I swore belonged to Daft Punk. Seeing I’ve been a Daft Punk enthusiastc since I was a teen, I googled the commercial on Youtube and found out that it was actually was a french-duo named Justice. Turns out the “jingle” was a track called “Phantom part 2″ off their “cross” (or untitled) titled debut album and were receiving major accolades in North America thanks to Kanye West and his big mouth (a cockey incident at the MTV Awards in Europe). I’m always for new material, and I’ve interviewed tons of people but upon my acknowledgement of these guys, it was like they were constantly in my face! Ultimately leading me to believe I had to conjure up some journalist piece on them. It was… as they’d probably put it - a sign.
I pitched Justice to two magazines in NYC, one accepted and before I knew it, I was jetsetting across the border (on the Greyhound) to get a backstage piece at the Madison Sqare Gardens in Manhattan with one of the hottest french-electro dj’s of my generation.Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Auge are two virtously humble guys. And along the way, I ended up dragging Kareem along as my photographer for the event seeing I couldn’t get a professional snapper to fill. I even put a face to my previous interviewee DJ Mehdi, the french pioneer hip-hop/electro DJ who’s also apart of the Ed Banger Crew. It’s a small world… that Ed Banger circle. Kareem also ended up giving Mr. Mehdi some gear as well.
I learned the guys were coming to Toronto literally a few days later after our interview. I ended up at an art opening for SO ME (Ed Bangers in-house designer Dude) and ended up chilling with the Ed Banger crew during their VICE Dj Set. I stayed in touch. I hung out with them once again and as usual, it was good times. Even the well-respected actor Josh Harnett came through to show love. We were a special pack behind the dj booth - I tell ya!
I’ve got loads of great pics, but these are the ones that reflect the intensity of the night. People were wild. There was crowd surfers and kids trying to look like Xavier (which I find so funny! - Like Ha Ha funny). And I give them props for that. It’s kind of surreal - in my opinion anyway, maybe ‘cuz I don’t really see all the glamour - just two cool guys doing what they love.
But look at that. All by sitting down watching TV. I tell ya, if you set your mind on a mission, it will be fullfilled. Trust Me.
Ok so its pretty incredible that all my friends are super talented. I remember years ago my friends telling me what they wanted to do and now they are actually doing it, their dreams are coming true. I feel like a proud mom lol. Well last night my long time buddy “Kid Cudi” performed at Santos for the 1992-Anniversary. I told him id go but i got caught up in my usual randomness and wasn’t able to make it out. Well i went to my friend Mel D. Cole’s site “villageslum” to check out what i missed and it looked like i missed a good one
Jay-Z showed up and that’s pretty big, any friend of mine that has Jay pop up at a show deserves major kudos. Well me and Cudi had a long talk the other night, we just caught up, exchanged stories and such and he told me about some really cool projects he is working on. Like super duper cool stuff so you must keep an eye out. As always i support those i consider friends and although we get in our annual fights i must say im prouder then proud can be of him. If your not put on yet then get on! check his Myspace out.
***Ps. As i went though my pic archives i came across pics from my House party bday about 3 years ago……Awwww the memories. In the middle of all the pics i found a little video clip of Cudi rapping in my kitchen with all the homeys Dice, Johnny, Kareem, Mickey and Steve-O, as all the ladies sat in the living room lol…….I think i should have another one of these lil gatherings for my bday this year, i forgot all the fun everyone had.
My friend Dan told me he put an event together for tomorrow to kick off CMJ’s. Told him id post this flyer so im doing my part cus imma good person lol. If your in NYC area then you should roll through for good music and good ppl!!!
A “couple” of these guys are my buddies sooooooo go support them, Thanks.
